Pirates Seize the Night Fire Prop Choreography w/Karen Sun Ray

Set sail for a high-energy pirate adventure with a playful fire-prop routine that feels theatrical, mischievous, and larger than life! Join the crew for this fun choreography to be performed at Hip Expression’s Annual Tribal Burn benefit which will help to support our beloved Sacred Lands Educational Preserve. The choreography will be geared toward fans or palms, but other props may be incorporated as well. Dates:

Choreography Rehearsals: Tuesdays, 6:30-8pm, September 8 – November 3, 2026

Blocking/Dress Rehearsal: Sunday, November 1, 3-5pm

Show Day: Saturday, November 7, Call time TBD-usually about 6:00pm (rehearsal can take place earlier in the day prior to show, time TBD) 

Extra rehearsals may occur as needed on a different day (possible charges may apply)

Rehearsal Location: 

Roberts Recreation Center

1246 50th Ave. N. | St. Petersburg, FL 33703 (upstairs in the dance room)

Requirements:

Be able to move about on an uneven surface

Ability to memorize and competently execute choreography (there will possibly be a variety of styles of movement incorporated into the choreography)

Attend all class rehearsals, dress rehearsal and show (life happens, so keep me informed if any have to be missed)

Arrive to rehearsals in a timely manner

Have a positive/supportive attitude for yourself and toward others

Have your own fire prop to use (can be purchased at: www.firebydancers.com or borrow one)

Create/Assemble your own Pirate costume, we do not need to match. Please be mindful of the type of materials you will be wearing. (it may be necessary to spray it with fire retardant spray for your safety. Details of this will be discussed at the first class and will be approved by the instructor.)

Have recently had or schedule fire safety training (this is a separate fee)

Stay active on the group chat for updates and viewing video from rehearsals for practice (probably WhatsApp)

 Cost: $300

 Price includes:

 Fuel during rehearsals and show

 Video of the group performance at the show

 Fire retardant spray for any costuming that needs it

 $25 Performance fee which goes directly to support Sacred Lands

About the choreographer and Tribal Burn: 

Karen Sun Ray Coletti has been performing and creating choreography of many styles of movement for several decades. She is co-founder of Hip Expressions and has been the Artistic Director of Tribal Burn for over 20 years. She is Director of Sahnobar Caravan, who performs at various Medieval/Ren Faires around Florida. Dance preservation has been her focus for many years through studying the dances and cultures from around the world. Tribal Burn is an annual event to benefit Sacred Lands Educational Preserve and showcase a variety of talent in the Tampa Bay area and beyond.
